PUBLIC NOTICE CITY OF FOREST GROVE ELECTION FOR CITY COUNCIL 2020 FOREST GROVE – The November General Election may seem a long way off but now is the time to start preparing if you are interested or thinking about running for an elected position on Forest Grove City Council. On November 3, 2020, General Election, citizens of Forest Grove will vote to fill three City Councilor positions (Councilors Timothy Rippe, Adolph Val Valfre, Jr., and Elena Uhing are eligible for re-election). A person seeking a City of Forest Grove elective office must be a registered voter and must be a resident of Forest Grove, residing for at least one year immediately preceding the election, and must file by petition and collect 25 certified signatures from Forest Grove electors. Each position carries a four-year term. The positions are elected from the City at-large and candidates who receive the highest number of votes are elected. Filing period: No earlier than 9:00 a.m., July 6, 2020 (120-days before election) and no later than 5:00 p.m., August 25, 2020 (70-days before election). Candidacy Election Packets are available at the City Recorder’s Office, 1924 Council Street, Second Floor, during business hours (9am-5pm), or online: https://www.forestgrove-or.gov/cr/page/elections. A candidate files by prospective petition (forms required) and be approved in writing to circulate petition. Petition is not considered completed until signature sheets (25 valid signatures) are certified and filed with the City Recorder. Please refer to: 2020 CITY COUNCIL ELECTION INFORMATION PACKET. The City of Forest Grove has a Council-Manager form of government. Elected officials decide the policies and goals for the City and a professional management team, under the direction of the City Manager, carries out the Council’s policies and objectives. Council meetings are normally held in the evening twice a month on the second and fourth Monday of each month. In addition to attending Council meetings, Councilors attend work sessions and other meetings as necessary and serve as liaison to other local, regional, and citizen advisory boards, committees, and commissions. Councilor position is paid $100 per month stipend and option to enroll in the city’s health insurance plan.
