LEGAL NOTICE A VACANCY ON THE METRO COUNCIL On Oct. 21, 2021, the Metro Council, the elected board that oversees the regional government for the greater Portland metropolitan area, approved Resolution 21-5210, declaring a vacancy on the Metro Council for District 6. The council resolved that it would wait until the 2021 Council Redistricting Process is completed before appointing a new councilor to District 6. Once the redistricting process is complete on December 14th, qualified parties can apply to fill the vacancy. An applicant must be a qualified elector and have resided within District 6 for 12 months prior to being sworn in. District 6 generally includes portions of Northeast, Southeast and Southwest Portland. Some communities within District 6 include: Ashcreek, Bridlemile, Crestwood, Foster-Powell, Goose Hollow, Hayhurst, Montavilla, Mt. Tabor, Multnomah, Reed, and Sellwood-Moreland Improvement League. The new councilor’s term shall end on January 3, 2023. The annual salary of a Metro Councilor is $51,565. An election to serve for the final two years of the previous councilor’s original Metro Council term will also be held in 2022. Candidates for District 6 must file by March 8 for the May 17 primary. Applications will open Dec. 8, 2021, and will remain open until 5 p.m. Monday, Jan. 3, 2022.
